Stock contractors Don Hutsell and Sonny Riley have provided the saddle bronc horses and bulls since the inception of each of the events, 20 years and 22 years ago, respectively.

These individuals and their companies are known throughout the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association for the high quality of the animal athletes.  In addition to providing stock for rodeos throughout the season, they have been selected Contractors of the Year in the PRCA where they have consistently provided rough stock for the National Finals Rodeo, the Super Bowl of rodeo.

The amazing horse Spring Fling was selected bareback of the year in 1997, and then this mare achieved the unmatched feat of being chosen as the saddle bronc of the year in 1999 and 2000.  She was retired at the end of 2009, and will live out her remaining life as a brood mare. She was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2014. Spring Planting, a gelding saddle bronc that has risen to stardom, comes from her lineage, and will carry on the tradition of great performances.

In 1997, the bull Rapid Fire was chosen bull of the year followed by Unforgiven in 2002, and Tahonta in 2003 and 2004.  The rodeo contestants look forward to competing on the Flying 5 Big Bend Rodeo Companies rough stock as they know that they can count on high performance stock that will give them the best opportunity for high scoring rides.
